Thanks seb128. With a fresh pair of eyes today I agree, it looks like
the tray region of the unity panel being damaged (but failing to redraw)
when notify-osd is above it.
This should be handled by UnityScreen::compizDamageNux ... and there is
code to redraw the panel itself in this case. But maybe that's not
always redrawing the tray rectangle too?
