"Affects me too" reporters: Please check your /var/log/dist-
upgrade/term.log (if you did a dist-upgrade) or /var/log/apt/term.log.
The error message about emacs23 is misleading and uninformative; you
have to check the log for what led up to the emacs23 install failure.

I'm assuming that in most cases, you (like apparently hundreds of
others) are being bitten by the ecb issue, which I am about to mark this
report as a duplicate of, because it's evident from the attached log
that this was the root cause in the OP's case. If yours is different,
please report a separate bug, or find a different bug to mark yours as a
duplicate of.
