To address my previous point, the specification for the "Connect to the
Internet" step now moves authentication to a standard wi-fi
authentication dialog that appears when you choose "Connect...". That
way, subtleties like password length checking (and even non-password
authentication) don't need to be reimplemented inside Ubiquity.
