Interesting you have a few options set differently then I do. I will try
your options shortly.
My configuration that isn't working is the following (just confirmed it
again):
auto eth1
iface eth1 inet manual
address 0.0.0.0
auto br0
iface br0 inet static
address 10.42.1.28
netmask 255.255.254.0
network 10.42.4.0
bridge-ports eth1
bridge-stp off
bridge-fd 0
root@XXX:/home/XXX$ uname -r
3.2.0-31-generic
