I too have this problem on Ubuntu, on versions 10.04, 10.10, 11.04, 11.10, and 12.04. Resume crashes with nothing working (pressing numpad doesn't make the light blink or caps lock). I have to hold the power button to turn the laptop off and turn it back on.
