I think this bug is one cause for bug 971665.

** Description changed:

  I have set up deja-dup (via the Backup system settings module) to ignore
  two folders which are unreadble by me (/opt/lost+found and
  /opt/.Trash-0).  At the end of each weekly back up I get a warning
  specifying that these two directories could not be backed up.  I
  expected deja-dup/duplicity to ignore these folders, but it appears
  duplicity attempted to back them anyway.
