** Description changed: When I first plugged in the external sound card, everything worked fine with no changes on settings or extra driver installations. After a few days, the sound just stopped working. I tried some fixes posted on the ubuntuforums but to no avail. I tried killall pulseaudio but nothing happened. I keep trying alsamixer but mixer doesn't exist. I tried to install the alsa driver module but it doesn't exist. + + I tried pavucontrol and the mixer does show that audio is being played. + + My setup goes from the pc to an external sound card via usb to AV + receiver via coaxial cable. The receiver and coaxial cable plays sound + perfectly well, just not on ubuntu. Any help is much appreciated.
