Using 20120929 on a GeForce FX Go5200, no luck.

For grins, I tried various boot parameters and got nouveau's output to
dmesg and the Xorg log for each of them.

Of these, the following failed to produce a visible X:
live http://paste.ubuntu.com/1254953/
live video=ofonly http://paste.ubuntu.com/1254998/
live video=offb:off http://paste.ubuntu.com/1255057/
live video=LVDS-1:1024x768-32@60 http://paste.ubuntu.com/1255066/
live video=VGA-1:d video=TV-1:d video:DVI-D-1:d http://paste.ubuntu.com/1255076/

These gave me "8 bit graphics" and blank dialogs (see http://imgur.com/ArhrV -
scrot doesn't show it being so bad), i.e. an unusable install:
live nomodeset http://paste.ubuntu.com/1255047/
live nouveau.modeset=0 http://paste.ubuntu.com/1255013/

I'm wondering if the issue isn't the SMP kernel. I didn't set that up,
it just ran that way. Thoughts?
