The bug persists. I cannot auto-connect to the WEP-encrypted network.
iwconfig fails to connect,
# iw wlan0 connect <essid> key 0:<key> && dhclient wlan0
works just fine.
It'd be nice if at least wicd had an option to use iw instead of
iwconfig.
