As you can see from the doc, Ubuntu devs want to support fewer kernel flavors, not more. They've even eliminated the non-PAE kernel, which is needed for some fairly moden CPU's like some Atom's and Pentium M's (some users are still kicking and screaming about that). i486 is even more of a niche, so don't hold your breath. At least Debian has you covered.
