This may not happen everytime. When some one sends you a message in empathy, you will get a notification in which you can reply. After few messages(when scroll bar appears in the notification - i.e.,after 10 lines of chat), when you close the notification and when the other person pings you, you will get the notification again. But in the notification, it doesnt show you the last message (even if he sends only one line). It misses by few inches . You have to scroll down (by few inches) to get to see the last message.
