The /etc/init.d/php5-fpm script has checks for $VERBOSE inverted. It
has several lines looking like:
[ "$VERBOSE" != no ] && log_daemon_msg "Starting $DESC" "$NAME"
which should read
[ "$VERBOSE" = no ] && log_daemon_msg "Starting $DESC" "$NAME"
