This is completely normal. If compiz is not completely gone you need to cal it using compiz --replace. In your case it is the network-manager applet only that is gone / has crashed and not compiz. However, I don't know which other logs to investigate for further details on possible reasons, must be somebody else coming over with further hints, please.
