The 12.10 was clean installed several days beforehand & parallel to an existing dual-boot Mint installation on the same HDD (Ubunto on sda1, Mint on sda8). The BIOS(?) made noises about Date&Time when selecting Ubuntu 12.10 and offered options for Resume F1 and Setup BIOS on F2. Pressing F1 caused the load to continue normally. Selecting Mint causes no problem at all.
My first thought was that the little CMOS protective battery is maybe low (my laptop is 6 yrs old), but that would also affect Mint, which it didn't.
