I won't have the UX31A with me for a few days. I had to send it back to ASUS to be serviced under warranty as I had issues with the keyboard (some keys stopped working - It looks like a hardware issue, the keyboard flat cable may not be properly connected). I'll be able to test what you suggested when I get it back.
As a matter of fact, I haven't had this issue again since the update of the standard Quantal kernel to v. 3.5.0-17.
