Ok, now I have tested with the latest kernel: 3.6.2

$ uname -svr
Linux 3.6.2-030602-generic #201210121823 SMP Fri Oct 12 22:31:22 UTC 2012
$ lsb_release -a
No LSB modules are available.
Distributor ID: Ubuntu
Description:    Ubuntu 10.04.4 LTS
Release:        10.04
Codename:       lucid
$

Do you want me to test with one of the mainline kernels closest to my
original kernel (to see if this is caused by an Ubuntu patch)?

If yes, I would appreciate if you could tell me which of these kernels to
choose:
- http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v2.6.32.59-lucid/
- http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v2.6.32.59.24-lucid/
- http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v2.6.32.59.25-lucid/
- http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v2.6.32.59.26-lucid/

Thank you for your assistance so far. It is really appreciated.
