Public bug reported:

I noticed this when I was attempting to burn some DVD backup disks this
evening...

K3b was acting particularly sluggish and burning many coasters. I then
tried the integrated Nautilus burner which yielded the same results. I
checked HDParm to find that I received the following output:

/dev/hdc:
 IO_support    =  1 (32-bit)
 unmaskirq     =  1 (on)
 using_dma     =  1 (on)
 keepsettings  =  0 (off)
 readonly      =  0 (off)
 readahead     = 256 (on)
 HDIO_GETGEO failed: Inappropriate ioctl for device

Checking further online for a solution, I ran dmesg and found this line:

[    6.232000] hdc: ATAPI 48X DVD-ROM DVD-R CD-R/RW drive, 2048kB
Cache<4>hdc: drive side 80-wire cable detection failed, limiting max
speed to UDMA33

I definitely have 80 conductor cable installed, so this puzzled me. I
was also unable to find anyone else that was able to solve this problem.

Hardware:

AMD X2 3800+
Asus A8N-SLI Premium NForce 4 Chipset
7800 GT
1GB Ram
