There is only one v3.7 kernel: v3.7-rc1-quantal. I tried to install that linux-image and linux-image-extra, but: E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages. E: Error, pkgProblemResolver::Resolve generated breaks, this may be caused by held packages. E: Unable to correct dependencies E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages. E: Unable to correct dependencies E: Unable to lock the download directory What exactly do you want me to do ? Did you want me to use v3.3.7-precise ? Something I forgot to mention here ---------------------------------- I used 10.04 on this ThinkPad for 2 years without any problems running [the same] Fingerprint software and there were no boot hangs ! I just booted 10.04 with kernel 2.6.32.41 to make a backup of 12.04 before the v3.7-kernel experiment and *didn't* find the '[drm:intel_dsm_pci_probe] *ERROR* failed to get supported _DSM functions' line in syslog there either. The DRM-related syslog lines are: Oct 17 00:14:51 zebrus kernel: [ 0.000000] Linux version 2.6.32-41-generic (buildd@allspice) (gcc version 4.4.3 (Ubuntu 4.4.3-4ubuntu5.1) ) #89-Ubuntu SMP Fri Apr 27 22:18:56 UTC 2012 (Ubuntu 2.6.32-41.89-generic 2.6.32.59+drm33.24) Oct 17 00:14:51 zebrus kernel: [ 16.589763] [drm] Initialized drm 1.1.0 20060810 Oct 17 00:14:51 zebrus kernel: [ 16.662737] [drm] set up 31M of stolen space Oct 17 00:14:51 zebrus kernel: [ 17.383623] fb0: inteldrmfb frame buffer device Oct 17 00:14:51 zebrus kernel: [ 17.395365] [drm] Initialized i915 1.6.0 20080730 for 0000:00:02.0 on minor 0 This much for tonight, hael -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1067456 Title: [drm:intel_dsm_pci_probe] *ERROR* failed to get supported _DSM functions To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1067456/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
