Public bug reported:
I have 12.10 (upgraded from 12.04) on my USB-flash and Nvidia Geforce 9600 GT.
I tried to install all versions of Nvidia drivers (nvidia-current,
nvidia-current-updates, nvidia-experimental-304) from software-properties-gtk.
Install process is succesfull for all three, but there is no blacklist file in
/etc/modprobe.d/ and after reboot I get nouveau in lsmod. So X11 uses nouveau
driver, not Nvidia's.
modinfo reports that nvidia drivers are installed correctly, modprobe fails
with message "FATAL: Error inserting nvidia_current
(/lib/modules/3.5.0-17-generic/updates/dkms/nvidia_current.ko): No such
device'" because of conflict with nouveau.
May this is a complex problem of nvidia-detector, software-properties-
gtk, etc...
