I have the same problem on Ubuntu 12.04, all updates installed. (image on monitor freezed, no mouse movement, no keybord). In my observation all processes are freezed, not just the UI.
Hardware: Intel Core i5 3360M Ivy Bridge, RAM 8GB, Intel HD Graphics 4000, Intel SSD 520 The lock up appears now in average once in a day. I've experienced it immediately after login, when working with Kile, when using Firefox,... No problems on Windows 7 in dual boot.
