Okay, having looked through the two gdmSessionLog.txt files, I found this line:
gnome-session[3819]: WARNING: Failed to start app: Unable to start application: Failed to execute child process "/usr/lib/policykit-1-gnome /polkit-gnome-authentication-agent-1" (No such file or directory) I did an apt-get install policykit-1-gnome, and it seems to have fixed the issue. Here's a similar sounding bug: https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=7554 So, does that mean the problem was there is a missing dependency for the gnome-shell package? That it should add policykit-1-gnome as a dependency? ** Bug watch added: bugs.mageia.org/ #7554 https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=7554 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1069104 Title: Gnome-shell broken since quantal upgrade To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1069104/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
