Public bug reported:

Installed fresh xubuntu 12.04. Problem appeared the first time I tried skype:
mic not working.
The computer has a Logitech webcam with integrated mic (wich was working before
, on win XP).
On the Valume Control --> Input Devices I could see the sound bar moving
following my voice for about 10 seconds and then stopping. I then tried an
old-fashined mic , plugged it on the rear pink jack, it has the same symptoms.
I played with alsamixer, somehow following this:
http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/ubuntu-63/xubuntu-logitech-microphone-not-detected-working-4175428670/
but I am not familiar with it. still no solution.
