I tested kernels 3.6.3, 3.5.7 and 3.4.15 from http://kernel.ubuntu.com
/~kernel-ppa/mainline/, as per comment #3.
3.6.3 fails with message "reloc wait_idle_failed: -16).
3.5.7 fails with the reported message ("Failed to idle channel...")
3.4.15 works OK.
