This is completely fixed in version 0.9.16 of pmount. Just try out
pmount LABEL=my_nice_label
and
pumount LABEL=my_nice_label
Provided that you have the LABEL=my_nice_label entry in /etc/fstab,
pmount will just forward the query to mount (without root privileges).
