First thing's first: to get you unblocked on this, please note that from
the boot menu you should be able to drill down into "Advanced options
for Ubuntu" and boot to your previous kernel (and initramfs) from 12.04.
This should allow you to boot the 12.10 system using the 12.04 kernel
and get you back on your feet.

Now, I notice that in your bug report you list "/dev/mapper-vgubuntu-
root". Can you confirm the spelling here? Because this is definitely
an incorrect device name - it should instead be /dev/mapper/vgubuntu-
root. So that could be your problem. In that case, the problem will
probably also affect trying to boot the 12.04 kernel, since the boot
menu entry will have been changed even if the initramfs hasn't.
