The blank displays fix I described above is also included in the
upstream kernel 3.5.5 as commit eefc86d74b3e70ae4d478a2a1bebb16a90a63061
Ubuntu kernels 3.5.0-17.26 and later are based on 3.5.5 so if the
problem is still occurring on Quantal final then it might be a different
bug.
