the bullet library is available on Ubuntu12.10 Quantal.

You can find it in software-center with the search term "libbullet".

P.S: Parts of the source of bullet are included in the 3D modeller
blender, which is able to do physics simulations. -> 3D modelling
requires in first stage no programming abilities,  but is time consuming
in other ways. Books and video tutorials are availabe on commercial
channels(and free).
