my headphones suddenly stopped working. i rebooted the system. still not 
working.
i think that running xoscope messed up the headphone output settings.
the system is detecting the headphones. the sound from speakers stops when i 
connect the headphone jack.
but no sound comes from the headphones.
the headphones are working fine in other devices.
