I have this issue as well on Thinkpad Edge 15 running Xubuntu 12.04.1 (x86_64 architecture). The issue presented itself last week. I was thinking of upgrading to 12.10 to see if that would resolve the issue, but given the reporter of this ticket has a similar class of machine and is running the latest dist release, I think I'll hold off for now.
