Hi Christopher, As with the bug/1067895 I tried the following kernel versions: --- 3.4.17-030417-generic (quantal) --- 3.6.3-030603-generic (quantal) --- 3.6.5-030605-generic (raring) --- 3.2.33-030233-generic-pae (precise)
I did not encounter the boot failure issue on any of those. The boot itself though feels too slow though and takes more than a of minutes (I can only guess that it is a radeon related too). Although, I think that my WORKAROUND is not a workaround, it just annoying to stare at the pink screen without any info. I did append "quiet splash" for the 3.7.rc3 just to check to see if there was any difference and there wasn't any. Neither have I seen the "[drm:radeon_ib_schedule] *ERROR* radeon: couldn't schedule" in the logs. As far as the artifacts are concerned, I did not notice with the compiz special effects. However, emacs23 has it when a buffer screen gets cluttered with highlighting and sometimes does not refresh when typing. I've seen earlier on radeon chips with Ubuntu 11.04. The LMDE mate desktop did fix it fore afterwards. I guess I will have to report on the Emacs screen cluttering separately. Let me know if you'd want me do anything else.
