I was having similar issues on Ubuntu 12.04.1 with my Dell Latitude E6530 (Intel graphics). It would completely freeze at random points during the day, most likely when browsing the web using Chrome/Chromium.
It seems that after doing a apt-get dist-upgrade with ppa:ubuntu-x-swat/x-updates set up as a source, I have not seen the issue :o) Currently running 3.2.0-33-generic I guess this bug is a conglomeration of a number of issues with similar symptoms, but hopefully this helps someone. ** Attachment added: "lsmod + lspci" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/993187/+attachment/3424016/+files/lsmod_lspci -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/993187 Title: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently.
