I also encounter this bug on my eeepc 1001AH, i've upgraded to Quantal two days
ago and the wifi connection woesn't work anymore at all, it tries to connect
but the authentication (with WPA2) always fail.
I confirm that it might be a kernel bug, as i've keeped my previous kernel and
the wifi works normally with it (3.2.0-33) but not with the actual one
(3.5.0-18), both of them loads the rt2800pci module to operate the device.
WIth the last kernel (3.5.0), wpa_supplicant logs that :
SME: Trying to authenticate with xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx (SSID='XXX' freq=2452 MHz)
Nov 5 01:56:22 localhost wpa_supplicant[4189]: wlan0: Trying to associate with
xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx (SSID='XXX' freq=2452 MHz)
Nov 5 01:56:22 localhost wpa_supplicant[4189]: wlan0: Associated with
xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx
Nov 5 01:56:25 localhost wpa_supplicant[4189]: wlan0: WPA: 4-Way Handshake
failed - pre-shared key may be incorrect
Nov 5 01:56:25 localhost wpa_supplicant[4189]: wlan0: CTRL-EVENT-DISCONNECTED
bssid=xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx reason=2
And with 3.2.0 :
SME: Trying to authenticate with xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx (SSID='XXX' freq=2412 MHz)
Nov 5 01:58:37 localhost wpa_supplicant[1017]: wlan0: Trying to associate with
xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx (SSID='XXX' freq=2412 MHz)
Nov 5 01:58:37 localhost wpa_supplicant[1017]: wlan0: Associated with
xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx
Nov 5 01:58:37 localhost wpa_supplicant[1017]: wlan0: WPA: Key negotiation
completed with xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx [PTK=CCMP GTK=TKIP]
