Public bug reported:
what i was doing:
- I was watching a fullscreen youtube video (length of the video was about an
hour, and I was halfway through)
What happened:
- the video stalled but remained fullscreen. ESC didn't work, ALT+TAB did bring
Unity to the front, and showed the window switcher. the window switcher
responded normally, and the selected window was supposedly focused, but the
video stayed in front and fullscreen.
- HDD read/write went nuts.
what i did next:
- i went to VT2, logged in and ran Top. it revealed gnome-settings-daemon to be
taking 80% CPU (the other 20% was devided between Xorg, Thunderbird Firefox and
other)
- i tried going back to VT7, but the graphics was messed up. CTRL+ALT+BACKSPACE
didn't work. back to VT2 worked.
- i tried to kill gnome-settings-daemon. no go.
- i did sudo killall -u <user> which effectively logged me out.
- I logged back in. upon log-in i got a crash report. it didn't open Launchpad.
- I did ubuntu-bug gnome-settings-daemon and reported manually.
- i restarted the video and watched the remaining half fullscreen
without trouble. i have no idea about reproducing this.
