I'm having the same problem with my Brother MFC-8440.
I remember I used an old old guide for Warty or Breezy on how to network
my printer. Then something went wrong, I removed the printer in gnome-
cups-manager and added it back. Now this is happening. Maybe the
configuration file needs to be refreshed?
I'm going to purge and reinstall cups and see how it goes.
