I have the same problem in 12.04 (lubuntu). aumix is important since I
am using the i3 window manager where I have to use a command-line tool
or a GUI tool independent of the desktop to control multimedia settings.
I am using alsamixer but it does not seem to control all my settings
correctly - I have to drop back to lxde to unmute sound or to get my
microphone working which is not the desired outcome for me.
