My Unity Photo lens does give the the correct rotation but any pictures in Files & Folders lens are not rotated correctly. In Gnome 3.4.2 the thumbnails do not show the correct rotation, however when I open these files in Image Viewer 3.6.0 they are displayed with the correct rotation. Glslideshow in Xscreensaver also shows portrait pictures incorrectly in lanscape mode. Prior to upgrading from 12.04 to 12.10 all these pictures displayed correctly in Gnome thumbnail view and in the GLslideshow.
