Got a weird solution for you... I had the exact same error message popup using Ubuntu v12.04 Desktop, and Ubuntu v12.04 Alternate (both x86): ------------------- This kernel requires the following features not present on the CPU: pae Unable to boot - please use a kernel appropriate for your CPU. ------------------- And the computer just hangs at this point.
Then I tried installing Ubuntu v12.04 Business Desktop Remix, and voila - it installed like it should have. I guess it is still using the non- PAE kernel? I wonder how many people managed to get beyond the pae error... I read a lot of suggestion for people having issues installing Ubuntu on Eee PC 701 that said to boot into Live Mode, then modify /usr/lib/ubiquity/ubiquity/misc.py. and change "min_disk_size = size * 2" to "min_disk_size = size * 1.4"... I couldn't install or boot Ubuntu until I used the Business Remix, and then it just worked, I didn't have any 4GB size limit issues at all... -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1005060 Title: pae Unable to boot on Vaio To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1005060/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
