this also affects online resizing of file systems, in my case extending
a 4T fs to 5T proceeded at a speed of 10 MB/s, using 100% of one CPU
core for a day, mostly in

 32.62%  [kernel]                      [k] ext4_get_group_desc                  
                                                    
 31.40%  [kernel]                      [k] count_overhead
