I saw this behaviour in another application as well (will try to
remember what it was) and as such I will change the bug package to
libdbusmenu as suggested.

Also noticed now that if I launch Geany from the terminal and whenever I
open up the submenu of a menu (File for example) containing these
invalid items, this error comes up:

(geany:15489): LIBDBUSMENU-GTK-CRITICAL **: watch_submenu: assertion
`GTK_IS_MENU_SHELL(menu)' failed

It doesn't come up if I open up  a submenu (for example Help) where all
menu items are ok.
