I have only booted off the 12.10 32bit iso so far and have not
installed, but the black display problem with the emachines e527 with
the 12.04.1 iso does appear to be resolved "out of the box" with the
12.10 iso, using no additional kernel parameters or other modifications.
However, while pressing the FN+arrow left/right keys displays the
brightness slider on the screen and the slider responds to key presses,
no corresponding change in actual screen brightness occurs. Adding (as
I'm doing in 10.04) acpi_osi=Linux to the kernel command line when
booting Linux makes the brightness adjustable, but disables the gui
brightness slider display entirely. On 10.04, with that kernel option
my arrow keys are properly assigned for adjusting the brightness, while
on 12.10 they're backward.
