This is a totally different thing to running them side by side where only one of the operating systems is using your net-book's resources. https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WindowsDualBoot has the details of accomplishing that. you may also well find that using one of the lower resource hungry versions of the Ubuntu family, such as Lubuntu may be better for you.
