I'm using Feisty release and Andrew's fix restored sound to my thin client but not to my server.
A fresh install (formatting / but not /home), followed by Andrew's fix preserved sound on my thin client and server. Thanks, Andrew. I hope this will be fixed in Gutsy, if not in Feisty.
