This, quite honestly, ceased to be an issue for me shortly after this occurrence as the pain involved in using the settings manager outweighed the benefit it brought me and I simply stopped using it. I unfortunately have no idea if this is still an active problem. I have changed platforms many times since reporting this, with the last Ubuntu version I have used being 12.04. However, I have not attempted to recreate this on any recent Ubuntu version thus any current platform information I provide is essentially spurious.
At this point, If information can be gleaned from the person who reported the duplicate, they would, most likely, be a much more useful source. If not, then please feel no obligation on my behalf to keep this open, as I do not currently have time to set up a Ubuntu environment for testing this.
