I have marked it as 'confirmed'. There are no problems with kernel 3.7.0
on my machine.
I did boot kernel-3.5.0-18-generic to test again and the above bug did happen.
I got 'kernel BUG at /build/buildd/linux-3.5.0/mm/mmap.c:2312!' with kernel
3.5.0-18-generic within a few minutes.
Thanks for all your help. I am glad it is fixed upstream.
I will continue using kernel 3.7.0 as it is much more reliable than 3.5.0 on my
machine anyway.
