I suspect bugs #1081245, #1082909, #1084627, and #1085991 are all related to this, and perhaps dupes (at least, all have hangs at the same point). I didn't compare syslogs to see if they are indeed dupes.
>From the comments it sounds like this can occur when there are existing partitions set up on the disk that somehow confuse ubiquity. A number of users report working around the problem by deleting all partitions and trying again, however in situations where you want multiple ubuntu's installed side-by-side, that obviously won't work. There is an askubuntu post here: http://askubuntu.com/questions/204771/ubuntu-12-10-installation-hangs-at-preparing-to-install-ubuntu I've been able to reproduce this bug on two out of three systems (two desktops failed; one laptop worked fine). I've tried both with and without checking "download updates while installing" and "include third- party software", which didn't change the behavior. Tried both going directly into the installer, vs. booting into the live environment and then loading the installer. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1080701 Title: After 'Preparing to install Ubuntu' screen, raring installation hangs with 'ubuntu partman: No matching physical volumes found' To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/1080701/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
