Are you able to connect to (or simply ping) 10.0.0.1 by IP number? How
about other hosts on the remote side of the VPN link?
If resolvconf is indeed populating the dynamic resolv.conf file with the
correct nameserver info, it seems like a more general issue with the VPN
connection (routing setup, firewall rules, etc.) is likely to be the
cause of your DNS-resolution failures....
