Public bug reported:

07 Dec 2012 I installed the latest ubuntu 12.04 updates on my Pavilion
dv6 laptop. This came with a kernel update 3.2.0-35

I always leave my headphones connected to the jacks (left side, mic=red,
ears=black).  I don't use the built-in speakers very often and don't
unplug my headphones.

I noticed something strange after latest package updates and restarting
because there is now a light on the keyboard f11 / mute key showing the
sounds is muted. This didn't happen before.

If I unplug the headphones then the light goes out and it unmutes. I
can hear sound through the laptop speakers. Both +/- volume buttons
work and mute key work and the OSD displays correctly.

When I reconnect the headphones the light comes on f11 mute key and the
sound disappears. The OSD still shows the master volume as 100%

I went into system setttings.... sound... changed the connector from
Headphones to Speakers and it seems to fix the problem but this is not
permanent, as I now have to do this after every reboot.

It used to work perfectly well before Yesterday so is there a way I can
get it back the way it was? Thanks for any help.
