Hi, I have partially solved my problem as follows. My PC is behind a firewall so I need to provide some data to the system (proxy an so on). First I have set the proxy under Preferences->Network proxy. Now I can browse the Internet with Firefox (under 'connection settings: use system proxy settings'). But it is not enough to upgrade the system. This because the process is managed by Superuser (have to insert the passwd). So one have to open a terminal and type sudo -s (pswd) export http_proxy=proxy:port export https_proxy=proxy:port export ftp_proxy=proxy:port
Now I get the updates with Update manager but the Software manager (i.e. mintInstall 7.4.4) doesn't work. I don't know why.
