I'm affected by this bug too under Kubuntu 12.10 64 bit, but I get the
error before seeing lightdm. When lightdm shows (it takes more time when
the kernel bug is shown, touchpad doesn't work. If I log in using
keyboard, synaptiks complains about a touchpad hasn't been found.

I've tested a mainline kernel and it seems to be working ok, although I
can't use it all the time because I can't use nvidia drivers with it.

BTW I thought 2.odd 3.odd versions of kernels (3.3, 3.5, 3.7...) were
development kernels, not stable as even versions. Why does an Ubuntu
release uses an odd kernel?
