Approximately 10 minutes. Yes gparted will start after that.

The problem probably lies elsewhere and not in gparted.

namely:
sudo  lsmod 
Module                  Size  Used by
[...]
floppy                 60184  0

sudo blkid

sudo  lsmod 
Module                  Size  Used by
[...]
floppy                 60184  1

For 10 minutes the process of "blkid" module uses a "floppy".
And it should not.

sudo rmmod -v floppy
rmmod floppy, wait=no

When you unload the module "floppy", everything is fine, no delays.
